Meandering around Mayne Island

We just spent the last two nights on Mayne Island, one of the southernmost Gulf Islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland. I think WD liked the slower pace although there were fewer people around to visit with him. The view from our room was quite serene.

There are about 1100 full time residents on the island and the population triples in the summer. The bays are a gorgeous turquiose colour when you see them from above and there are lots of sandy beach areas that make running dogs happy.

We even found a blooming flower at the Japanese garden.

We visited the lighthouse where I took this picture of a gull eating a starfish through one of those viewfinder thingies. It turned out better than I expected.

Overall, Mayne is a nice island with a good vibe. It would be interesting to see what it is like on the summer.
