Stay Tiny: Campbell River Tiny House

It has finally happened. I’ve designed several, toured one, and even bought official plans to build one, but I’ve never actually slept in a tiny house . . . until now.

This was also my first official Airbnb experience, though I have already booked several nights in Newfoundland for our girl’s only trip happening in June.

My brain was definitely going into overload building mode. I spent a lot of time comparing this design to what I would build for myself. It was a great experience and got me thinking about something that I use to really enjoy and maybe, just slightly, obsessed about.

It’s quite a challenge to take pictures in such a tiny bathroom, but there was enough space to comfortably move around. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that you had to use the kitchen sink as your bathroom sink too. For me, there’s just something a little bit wrong about brushing your teeth in the same spot you clean your dishes. Maybe I’m weird.

I realized as I was putting this post together that I didn’t actually take any pictures of the sleeping loft or from the loft looking down. I did, however, take video. So, for the first time ever on this site here’s a video (other than the awesome “What’s in your suitcase?“, of course). It isn’t a very good video but at least it shows the loft area. Note to self for the next time – take more pictures.

This tiny house was located near Stories Beach in between Courtenay and Campbell River, BC. Stories Beach just happens to be the location of one of my new ‘street art’ obsessions – driftwood sculptures. There are several located on Vancouver Island and I aim to one day find them all. Here I found Buckminster the grey owl.

If you continue on, heading north into Campbell River on 19A you will be greeted by my other new friend, Peabody the raccoon.

These sculptures are made by the very talented Drifted Creations. I think Malcolm Island needs one or two of these. What do you think?
