So August is affectionately known as Fogust around here. This year is no different, although for a brief time it was termed Smaugust as the wind shifted and the smoke from the interior fires drifted this way. Thankfully we only had the smoke and not the actual fires. I can’t even imagine what it is like for so many people as this year has now become the worst on record. I drove down to pick up a friend in Comox recently. I took this picture at a rest stop on the way down.
The next picture was a day later on the way back home.
The smoke was definitely moving in. But the more common sight this time of year is the fog. It usually burns off by mid day but it does make for some interesting conditions and the sound of birds waking you up in the morning has been drowned out by fog horns from the ferry or passing ships. The recent eclipse looked like this. Yes that is the view in front of my house. You should see ocean and sky.
Tonight it had mostly cleared but as you can see, the wispy fog fingers are reaching out to take hold again.
In a rare stretch of uninterrupted house-working-time we managed to get most of the steps in to ease the transition from driveway to house.
It will need some finishing work but I’m quite happy with the way it is progressing.
The inside work has been light with just some trim work around the doors and the under cabinet lighting finally getting finished today.
The big project still on the list is my concrete countertop. It is ready to pour so hopefully there will be pretty pictures of that next time. In the meantime, I am gearing up for a visit with family and obsessing about our next adventure. We have decided it is time to reward all our hard work and are planning an extended trip to New Zealand and Australia with a stopover in Tahiti.
Why not, I say. A gypsy must roam or wither away.
Thanks for getting the stairs in – a timely advantage for two elders coming to visit – remember how slippy it got in the rain last year. Kitchen looks great. See you soon, Love AT
